Bill McKibben, the renowned sustainability scholar, believes that one of the “greenest” things one can do is to foster a sense of community. To strengthen and build community is at the foundation of the SLPS mission.
Commencing in 2008, we have been taking steps to make our events as sustainable as possible. The end goal: zero ecological-footprint event production. Environmentally responsible brands or identities are offered the opportunity to aid Slideluck Potshow in these conscious efforts.
Whenever possible, SLPS has introduced the use of all biodegradeable tableware - all of our non petroleum-based cups and cutlery are compostable. Bottles and cans are recycled. In many case, arrangements are made to either compost or donate all leftover food, making SLPS essentially a trash-less event.
As a global phenomenon, SLPS requires frequent travel of its staff, and when the budget allows, we strive to purchase carbon offsets for all trips.
At Slideluck Potshow we are aware of the need to create sustainable events and will include this element wherever possible. While in some countries this is not as possible as in others, we try to maintain a certain level of sustainability across the board. Our hope is that in acting as an agent of change, we are able to introduce and educate SLPS newcomers to the virtues of being eco-conscious.
Individuals or organizations that are interested in sponsoring the Slideluck Green Initiative, should not hesitate to contact us!
