It was a dark and stormy night in April as dozens of hooded figures clutching parcels ducked into the glow of the old navy hospital. The rain pounded the streets and the trees whipped back and forth in the wind, yet the flow of determined visitors would not cease. Who were these mysterious figures, these creatures of the storm? Potluckers. The night was certainly far from perfect for guests traveling to Washington DC’s seventh Slideluck Potshow, but the once they found the Hill Center on Pennsylvania Avenue, warm food and good company awaited them. Patrick McMullen’s inaugaral effort as Slideluck DC’s director brought together 26 District artists, Brooklyn beer, and a Latvian DJ in an evening of art and community that will never, under any circumstances, be rained out. |
